I've still never been there, but the other lakes up there are AWESOME in the fall!!! If all goes as planned, I'll be up on Mullett from 10/1 until 10/8 or 9 playing tug of war with some toads. If my friend stays healthy so we get the whole week, we are planning a side trip to Black.

rattle traps are awesome on black in the fall, it is a great lake the lack of fishing pressure makes it that much better.

Thanks a lot blkstr1. It may sound like im asking for spots but really i was just looking for some general info. I wont get a chance to prefish and would like to eliminate as many things as possible before taking off. I have a couple traps and I will be sure to give them a try. Ill try and get a report out soon after the tournament. It will probably be my last tourney for this year, but ill still be fishing.

Not good. At least not good for me. It was a 2 day event and I hadn't prefished at all but hoped that i could get on some fish during the 9 hour first day. I drew boat #1 and right after that my luck pretty much ran out for the weekend. I decided to try it right in the river (the one that black lake marina is on) since i didnt have any spots on the lake that i was in a hurry to get to, plus the wind was blowing pretty hard already. Well that didnt pan out to well. Missed a fish 10 mins. in on a spook. Thought i may be on to some more aggressive fish after that strike so i kicked up the trolling motor and cast at the edges of the weeds along the river for the first 2 hours without one more strike. Decided that wasn't the place to be so i braved the waves and headed out onto the lake. I knew there was a weed flat with a nice drop about 1/3 of the way down the lake on the western shore (right out in front of the river that flows into black lake). Seemed like it would be a good spot to try with the wind blowing and it was a little protected which was a bonus for me. Tryed the rattle trap like you said but on about my 8th cast i happend to catch the trolling motor on the back cast and busted it in to pieces. Tied on another and tryed it for a while with no luck. Stayed in the same area and switched to a thunderstick. Had a big smallie follow it right to the boat on one of the first few cast, but couldnt get him to hit. Well to make a long story short this happend to me all day and I couldnt find anything i could do to make them hit. I could actually see fish a few times and would throw a tube at them and they would just look at it and follow it back to the boat without taking it. TALK ABOUT FRUSTRATING. Well anyway i zeroed on the first day. A lot of other guys were having the same problems with fish following too. On top of that when i got back in someone had found my cell phone floating in the launch area. Seems it fell out of my pocket in the morning.

Day 2 Well in my early morning rush i some how forgot my tackle bag at home. I dont know how i managed that one. I just couldnt believe it. That morning was flat calm and over cast a exact change from the wind and sun of day #1. I thought that i could catch some of the fish I had seen the day before so out to the flat i went. When i got there minnows were poppin all over. I threw out a Zara spook(1 of 5 lures i had that day). Charlie Plourd was only about 100 yards or so away from me and nailed 3 solid keepers in the first 15mins. on topwater. He had gone fishless at this same place on day #1 also, but had a good 2nd day with 16lbs. I kept chuckin and missed a giant fish. Threw right back in the same spot and missed again. Well another long story short i only managed 1 fish all weekend. I caught it on a spinnerbait. About an hour later i lost that spinner to a big ole pike. With no tacklebox thats a big mistake. Pretty much somes up how my weekend went.
