I noticed that a couple of you guys mention Wayne's tubes under the Mizmo Tube heading. I sat in on one of Wayne's seminars this year (2005 in Novi) and found it to be extraordinary, especially for a guy like me who is just getting into fishing St. Clair and Erie.
What I was wondering is would it be worth it to go ahead a pick up some of Wayne's tubes.

Of course, you'll get an affirmative from me - the Combat Fishing logo above is Wayne's for his Lake St. Clair information products. I've been using Wayne's Xtreme Bass Tackle tubes for almost as long as he's sold them. I normally only represent products I have a lot of confidence in - which is why I worked my way into a team spot with Wayne. He's developed a number of custom colors that really catch bass and are unique (until sometimes someone copies them - but even then they don't always get it right). Canadian Mist is a must have color for Lake St. Clair that works well in many places. I use Emerald Shiner hologram, green-pumpkin/chartreuse-purple flake, green-pumpkin/copper, Firetiger, Great Lakes Craw, Light Melon/double copper and St. Clair Goby a lot. He also has 4" X-worm stick worms and twin tail hula grubs in Canadian Mist. Besides that are his books, maps and newsletter on Lake St. Clair. Products that will help any angler catch more bass on St. Clair. There are other anglers on the board who have used his tubes too. I hope they will give good reviews. If you want to check out Wayne's Xtreme Bass Tackle tubes, he has an eBay store you can order them on. Click here.

Thanks, I have his web site book marked. I was just wondering if they were as good as he said they were. It sound like they probably are.
I am hoping to see his gig in Lansing, I think in March some time. I would like to pick some of those tubes up then.

His tubes work just fine. I catch hundreds of bass a year on them all over, not just on Lake St. Clair.
I'll be doing seminars with Wayne at the Lansing and Grand Rapids shows. You can always check the calendar on this board to see dates of shows and tournaments that I've noted.
The Lansing show is March 10 - 13. I'll be there on the 12th and 13th most or all of the day at Wayne's Xtreme Bass Tackle booth. I'll probably be there in the evenings on the 10th and 11th too. Should have the tournament schedule soon.
I have a brochure of my 'must have' tubes for Lake St. Clair you can check out when you get there.

I visited Wayne's booth in Lansing last year. I picke up some of his Canadian Mist 5" tubes. One day last summer, I caught twice as many fish as my two buddies on the same boat using those tubes. The color was right, they sank the way they should, and they held up to the smallies quite well. I bought another pack this year in Lansing. Next, I think I'll pick up the emerald shiner. Also, Wayne will be at the Lansing Show that runs from March 9-12 I believe. Everytime I see him speak, I learn more than the last time.

Thanks PoorBoy.
The eBay store is the best option right now for online.
You can always call the toll free: 877-485-2223 and get what you want shipped quick.
He'll be updating the other web site after the shows, and I expect at least one more online ordering method this summer too.

I know there is no definite answer to this, but I will ask anyway. Do you guys prefer the 4 or 5 inch carpenter tubes? Do you have general rule that you follow?
I am going to order just a couple of packages to try out and I was wondering what I should get to start with.
Thanks Pat

I read Wayne's website last year and took him at his word. He said that the 5" would outfish the 4" most of the time. I only bought the 5". It worked pretty well. I'm sure it's like everything else though, sometimes they might prefer the 4" when their not so aggressive But, Dan will jump in here I'm sure, and he's got a lot more experience than I do. By the way, Wayne is going to be up at the Lansing show, and if you're going to that, you could pick up what you need there. He's also doing several seminars at the show. If you've never seen his presentations, check it out. He is a wealth of information. Speaking of a wealth of information, Dan are you going to help out Wayne in Lansing, and if so, when are you going to be there?

Right now, it looks like he's taking it easy on me in Lansing. I'll be doing the seminar Friday at 2:30 PM with him and working that evening (and possibly Thursday evening too).
I'll be there some of the weekend, but I may have some wondering around, checking out seminars time of my own on the weekend.
I use the 5" of the darker colors more often than smaller tubes. I use mostly 5" any time I'm fishing deep in the channels of the St. Clair River. I throw the 5" a lot in tournaments because I want big fish.
I have about 3 confidence colors that don't come in 5" yet, so I throw 3.5" or 4" but usually switch as soon as I have a limit (excepting my favorite green pumpkin/chartreuse-purple flake 4").
I will continue to use the smaller tubes when I think matching the hatch is important, or the bass just don't seem to want the bigger tube. On the Great Lakes, this is less common than getting bigger bass on bigger tubes.
On inland lakes, I'll smaller tubes a little more when the bite is finicky.

I saw Wayne at the Novi show for the first time and I was truely impressed. I did a little homework after the show, and by then the show was over so I did not get any tubes from Wayne. (I am kicking myself right now for that)
I will have to order the baits over the internet, because I probably won't be able to make the Lansing show due to my second child coming on the 10th. There are only a couple of things more important to me than my fishing and this is one of them.
Thanks fellas Pat

Waynes tubes are awesome - been using them for 3 years now, and highly reccomend them. They were developed for st clair/eerie, but work eveywhere. Waynes 5" goby, and smoke gold puple(now called canadian mist) led me to a decent finish 63 in the Champlain everstart last fall - can't wait for escanaba this year! I typically use 5" as well most o fthe time, although 4" and a trailer is higher effective as well. I had success on Ky lake last spring over all my buddies flipping 5" in the buckbrush. the tubes have a thicker wall section and are very durable. Wayne is a wealth of knowlege, and really got his homework done right on the tubes.

Well, unfortunately I could not attend the Lansing show, however I gave a buddy my list and a little cash.
He got what I wanted, but I have not seen him since the show. I cannot wait to get my hands on those baits.

We had our best show ever for Grand Rapids this year. We also sold way more 5" tubes than normal over there. Wayne was really happy.
Our seminars were very interesting too. We ended up in the back corner by Milt Wilcox's (of the great 84 Tigers) dock dogs and lumberjacks due to a scheduling glitch.
We were given a half hour and being between the dog warmups and competition meant we had 30 to over a hundred people already sitting there. By the time we'd finish, both sets of stands were packed with a few hundred people.
We judged how we did by how many of the people who's interest we held. You could tell which people were there just for us, but today things seemed to go really well based on the number of people who reacted to our questions and quick contests for giveaways (all kids today). Milt Wilcox did a great job of giving us intro's too. We tried to return the favor, but we didn't want to ruin his line about his star dog - 'Sparky Anderson' Wilcox!
We actually had one person come up right at our finish today and ask for directions to the booth. Instead of staying for the dock dogs, he headed right over to get some of Wayne's tubes.
