I need some help. I have a Merc 200 EFI on the back of my Champ and was wondering what is the best way to fog it out. I have done other outboard but thay were not EFI. Looking to save some $$$ by doing it my self again.

As always I am going to recommend your local dealer(or the best--I heard they were located in Kalamazoo) With an EFI there really is no way to do it yourself. I actually asked my service dept. this questions and the answer that I got is--- when they fog an EFI motor they actually do it through the fuel system with equiptment not available to the general public. He did say though that some people(even though it is not 100% correct) simply fog the cylinders, which I guess you would simply remove the spak plugs spray it in there then put'em back in and run it. That is not the correct solution though!

Andy - where's your motor manual? When I had my DFI, they said you don't really winterize them. You've now reminded me I have one more chore - reread the manual on my new Yamaha HPDI and see what I have to do to winterize that beast. I can't even faintly remember what it says. I've read the whole manual twice, but that was early this summer. If it takes more than a wrench and duct tape, I'll probably have to go visit Josh and Miles and the rest of the guys at D&R. I wish I could help you myself, but I bet if you call Miles and ask him nicely if your motor is easy or hard to do, he'll give you an honest and fair recommendation. I know he's more mechanically inclined than me or Josh. Nowadays, you definitely don't want to do it wrong or get a false sense of security. Too big of an investment. Now I just have to figure out like in the other thread - when am I going to do it??

Dan, I'd wait if I were you. I'm planning on getting mine done sometime in the next week or two. As soon as it's finished, we should have a nice heat wave come through (at least that's the way it seems after I put the boat up for the winter...)...

I'm sorry to hear that Andy. Did you buy your boat new from them? I'm thinking you told me you did.
I will always try to help out when I can. I don't own or run the place, but I like to see happy, satisfied customers whenever humanly possible. I can always talk to Miles or Josh or whomever and see if there are options/alternatives available.
Sometimes situations can be improved. Sometimes not. It usually doesn't hurt to try.
I can check this weekend and see if my friend Larry has his Mercury EFI manual. If he didn't file it somewhere never to be seen again, I could look and see what it says about winterizing.
I've had some luck searching the Internet for these kinds of answers, but it can be time-consuming depending on the specifics.

I sure hope cabelas winterizes my boat for me because it doesnt look like i will be getting it back for a while way to blow the rest of the season for me CABELAS, now you must die. Andy, i was checking my merc manual and i think i have a bogus manual for a smaller outboard or just a general manual for mercury maintenance. it says nothing about EFI in the whole thing and i cant find anything on winterizing. however, i did do a search on yahoo for 'winterizing mercury 200 efi....a bunch of stuff popped up but i did not have time to look through all of it. you might try this tho. one site looked promising....www.marinemechanics.com.... hope you find what your looking for. Sorry guys I stayed up a little late last night and have been actually working today(for those of you that know me, that really wasnt a joke!) What size and year is your Merc, Andy. Actually if you didnt get a manual for your motor that is actually my depts. fault. (I can say that because it wasnt my dept when you bought your boat) Service really shouldnt be taking the blame for that. I became Sales Manager here about mid-summer, (I have been here doing the financing and paperwork since 2002 though)we have had some problems in the past, but are really cleaning up alot of our problems and processes. It is possible that you had a not so good experience here in the past but I want you to regain confidence knowing that I am here to help whenever possible. I am a pretty accessible person. Anyone that wants my cell number is welcome to it, I am at several dozen tournaments a year and 143 customers actually have me on their nextel 2-way. (I am also very good at TELLING someone how to catch fish, even though I cant do it myself) Let me know what size it is and the year. I will email the text on winterizing to you and will send the manual to you asap.

out of the manual
1. remove the wspark plug, add apprx 1 ounce (30ml) of engine oil into each spark plug hole, rotate the flywheel manually several times to distribute the oil in the cylinders. Reinstall spark plugs.
2.Remve the water seperating fuel filter and empty contents into a suitable container. Refer to maintance section for removal and installation of filter. Replace fuel filter anuualy or every hundred hours of operation, or if large amount of fuel contamination is present.
all other gearcase and junk still needs to be done.

I just reread my manual on motor storage. Whew! I'm not sure if I want to do it or not. I may have to call Miles in a few weeks to get some pricing.
Regardless, my alarm has not made a beep in a while (it didn't dawn on me for a bit that the 'turn-the-key' beep was missing). I haven't even looked into that yet.
