Just wanted to extend a Very Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year to all of the forum members and their families. With all of the protesting going on about Chirstmas all across the country, I feel it only right to wish that many more people a Merry Christmas, I urge everyone to do the same!
God Bless

Merry Christmas Blake!!!!
After reading a few of your posts, I think you are on the east side? If so, do you know much about Lake Fenton? One hour before our meeting where we nominate and vote on our lakes, I was just tooling through the map book and found this lake. I can't believe it got voted in!
If you are familiar with this lake, I would like to ask you some questions.
I hope Santa Claus comes down your chimney on Christmas Eve and delivers lots of great presents, and not the "Winter Break" fairy delivering peace and political correctness so we don't make anyone mad.

Let me just say I just figured out you're from Saginaw. Just a little tip for everyone, there's a little thingy underneath the user name of the person writing the post... IT'S CALLED "LOCATION"!!!!! Jeesh I'm an idiot! Well if you still feel like replying Blake, I would appreciate it.

Another interesting tidbit: In Texas at Lowes you can no longer buy Christmas trees, they only sell Holiday Trees, but if you want to buy a Holiday Tree stand you are out of luck, they only sell Christmas Tree Stands!!

Josh Let me dip into the archives a bit, been a while since I've been there. I do know a couple guys that were there this past year, I'll be seeing them over the holidays, I'll see what they know...

That is hillarious. I love watching those who like to pick on Christmas make idiots of themselves. I guess there are no trees in homes unless you happen to go out of state somewhere and get a black market holiday tree stand. he he he Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. God Bless.

I think we can safely wish everyone who is in to Christmas a Merry Christmas.
Anyone who is not into Christmas, the wish is not intended for you nor would I hope offense is taken if the rest of us celebrate. I think there is enough tolerance among enough individuals in this country, we could work the rest out if we try hard enough.
Personally, I think Lowes should have Christmas trees AND holiday trees and whatever else they think there is a market for among the diversity of America.
Overall, I just hope you all stay safe and happy.

Lake Fenton is full of willing to bite smallmouth. But most are just barely keeper size. But if you want to come in with a limit, smallmouth are the way to go. Fish steep drops and deep flats with slow moving baits. For the drops, its hard to beat a 4" senko type bait. It is fairly clear water so natural colors work well. On deeper flats, small jigs worked best for me. 1/4 oz with the skirt trimmed just under the hook and a nice lil zoom super chunk jr. I have only fished it a few times, but did well catching barely keeper smallmouth with a few in the 2 - 2.25 lb range. Topwater can be good out there too i guess. I only fished the top once, but it was ideal topwater conditions: cloudy with a slight breeze and warm. Tore em up on a pop r. Mostly smallmouth but i got a decent largemouth to take the bait as well. PoorBoy himself

Thanks PB
I also tried to get Kent lake voted in since I kind of know someone who fishes it until the ice stops him. Thay didn't go for that one though.
I honestly hope that maybe sometime next year you'll have some time to meet up and do some fishing.
I know you work like eight jobs or something... also, didn't you say you were getting married next year too?

Hello all!
I thought it was finally time to register.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!
As for Lake Fenton, I have fished it a lot and the biggest issue is boat traffic. During the hot summer weekends, it can be solid boats from sailboat's, jet ski's, water skiier's, power boats, pontoons and divers(very popular on this lake). There is a 45mph speed limit, but crossing the main lake is more like running a slolam course. Parking is limited and by 11 or noon there is a line a half mile long of people trying to get on the lake. Weigh-in should be interesting because there will be a lot of people in line waiting for your parking spots. It is very hectic there that's why very few tourny's go out of there.
Now for the fishing.... The lake does have a lot of big fish. 6.5# largemouth is the largest I've seen personally, but a lot of the larger bass in Michigan come from this lake with several up to 7-8#'s caught every year. My biggest smallie was 4.5# but have heard from diving friends that see a lot of smallies claimed to be 6#+ in the deeper areas. But the larger fish can be difficult to come by because the water is very clear (15-20+ foot visibility in a lot of places), shallow depths that lead to very steep drop offs, and the boat traffic slows the daytime bite. Natural colors, light line and long casts are a must. My prefered fishing area is around Cranes Cove. It has large weed beds, less extreme drop offs and softer bottoms (a little darker water). Also try some of the deep rocky/gravel areas off points for smallies.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

It does help out quite a bit. I hope that we can work things out with the park so not to let people in until we actually leave the park. I see you just joined today...
smbassman huh... does that stand for "southern michigan" bass man? Just wondering if you are from my neck of the woods.

Welcome to the forum smbassman. Thanks for registering and posting. Great help and very true. Last time I went near Lake Fenton I was fairly young and small, and I thought we wouldn't need to worry about our old motor starting. I just figured we could jump from boat to boat all the way across the lake...

Josh No -- Not Southern Michigan - Small Mouth bassman! Actually, I grew up in Flint and now live in Vassar(by Saginaw). Blake should be able to figure out who I am since I will be joining Team Bass at their next meeting. They seem like a very good group of guys! Hopefully they can learn a lot from me ;-) Thanks for the welcome and since this white crap and hard water are going to be around a while and work is slow, I will probably be here often! Talking about bass fishing is the only way I make it through the withdrawals.
