Has anybody ever heard of a hook sharpener called the Hook Hone-R. These haven't been manufactured for 10 years or so now. They are a rechargeable unit that sharpens any hook to a needle point without losing power. The best sharpener ever. The were originally manufactured in Traverse City by a company called Pointmatic that is no longer in business. I recently bought one through ebay, it came to me all the way from Hawaii. Just wondering if anyone had one or knew of any..

I had one for a while way back. Larry had one too at least that I remember. Both broke after a year or two of hard use (nad quit sharpening well before they broke. We may not have known the proper way to use them?

the one guy i know that has had one for a while is still using his after all this time. i guess the little "stone" fell out one time and the company sold him more and he had a problem with the battery but other than that no problems. Another guy I knew left his in a boat for 3 days of heavy rain, it got pretty wet and never worked again...hard telling, the one I got is like brand new.

I thought they were the best thing going, as well. I still have one (I think) that uses "D" cells. I had one that was rechargeable, but wasn't usable anymore. I don't remember why. Either the stone fell off or it wouldn't recharge anymore, or maybe both. I know the stone fell off at one point but I think I used epoxy to re-glue it. Now, companies are making hooks so sharp that I don't bother anymore. If I dull a hook, I either touch it up with a file or just replace it with a new onel.
