I fished in heavy rain this weekend only to discover that my raingear wasn't up to the task. I was soaked head to toe. It was just some of that cheap ripstop Stearns stuff from Wal-Mart. So my question is: is the Gore-Tex stuff all it's cracked up to be? BassPro has some stuff on sale and I'm thinking of buying it. It's Gore-Tex, but they have 2 different kinds. One is the 100MPH stuff and the other is the HPR High Performance. The HPR is considerably less money, but the 100MPH boasts that it's bone dry. Does anyone have the HPR stuff and does it keep you dry under extremely heavy rain? I can't spend $400 on rain gear right now. With gas being so high right now, it's just not in the budget.

i have the 100 mph suit and will say that it is the best $450 i have ever spent. It all comes down to whether or not you want to stay really really dry, or just kinda dry. I think the HPR suit is basically the same thing as the 100 mph suit with less features. Either way, i know a handful of guys who own them and they work well. But those same guys have commented that they wish they would have spent the extra money to get the 100 mph. With anything, you get what you pay for. $450.00 is a lot to spend on rain gear but it would be money well spent. On a side note, the 100 mph suit is not 100% waterproof. If you spear a wave the water will eventually start seeping through. But it wont leave you soaked underneath, just a little damp. But the suit itself closes up well to keep rain from running down your neck, up your arms, and other spots it can flow along your body. It is a bad mofo. and look at it this way, you only have to buy it once........ once! My two cents. PoorBoy himself

I just have a question about the 100 mph stuff. Does it get hot?

It is incredibly breathable, but if its 90 degrees out there of course your going to get warm. But when i wear them in the morning, i usually dont take them off until after the tournament. So its not bad. I wore them all day sunday and it was pretty warm outside but i was fine. I am talking about the bibs. I wasnt wearing the parka. PoorBoy himself

BassPro has 100mph jackets on sale right now, so perhaps I'll buy the jacket and save the bibs until I have the cash. I still wonder though if the HPR is as waterproof even though it has less features. I can live with less features, but I want to stay dry. Wet underwear are no fun no matter how they get that way. he he

Revtro, I have to agree with poorboy on this one. I have owned my 100mph suit for 4 seasons now and it is the best rain wear I have ever used. I wore it all day on saturday fishing St. Clair. I have a 16 ft boat and did manage to spear 3 waves heading back to the ramp. The only reason I got wet was from the water that washed through the hood opening and the water that I was sitting in up to my knees, my behind never did get wet. I usually wear the bibs all day as well when I put them on and really dont know that I am wearing them. If I were you I would get by with what i have this season and ask santa to get you a set for christmas. You will never have to buy another set of rain gear. I even wear mine as an outergarment when Ice fishing.
