I was just wondering if any of you guys have fished this lake before. I hear its a great largemouth lake with fish of 5 lbs being common and 7 pounders are catchable. I checked out a site and the Alpena Bass Club has a tournament on it every year. I am planned on fishing there if winter EVER gets over. Just curious to see if you guys have been there or not.

Unfortunately, I have never been there myself, but I have been told that it is fairly shallow and has a lot of submerged stumps. I hear that it could eat a big motor if you are not careful.
For whatever it's worth.

I have been there a few times. The fishing was great. Lots of wood and weeds. Be VERY carefull with the big motor. Many trees are less than a foot from the surface.
Just my 2 cents.

Glad to hear the fishing was good. I have also read about the lake and know to take it easy, but thanks for reminding me. Potter do you live in the northern half of the state or are you down farther?

jmcfarland, to respond to your question:
I live in West Branch. I do most of my fishing on Houghton lake or the Tittabawassee River impoundments near me (Secord and Wixom).
patiently waiting for soft water,

Flethers can be VANTASTIC. Went there on the 4th of July and got into them real good. Fish the old railroad bed and also the river chanal to the left of the ramp find the stumps that line the chanal and flip a jig if the fish are there you will know real fast. Had 3- 4's and 2- 5's out of there. And like everyone else is saying watch out for the stumps, you can run with out any proublems down the middle. The lake is one big weed patch so it all looks good. Thay say there are some good smallmouh in there too but i never hooked in to one. ;D

Fletchers is awesome! Tons of wood, which can make it somewhat trecherous...go slow and learn the lake. The first time I was there I knelt over the bow guiding my buddy through there looking for big logs and such. It paid off, we would have hit something for sure. With wood comes HOG BUCKETMOUTHS!! Good Luck!
