Have a small club tourney on Gun Lake in Barry County in mid-September. Anyone out there willing/able to share any info? I know the lake quite well but have not been able to crack the code of catching decent fish with any consistancy out there. Thanks in advance!

Spent a week fishing that lake about a 4 weeks ago. Im not sure if any one can get keeps over there with any consistancy. The week I was over there I was rewarded with 1 yes 1 keeper bass the rest were all dinks. Mid September im sure will be a a lot different most of the boat trafic will be gone I would think

Well that sounds encouraging - I can't wait (not)! That's been about the extent of my past luck on that lake as well. I went there for a few hours this morning. I had three 'bites' the whole time. The only one I landed was a 13" largemouth. I only hit some spots in the western basin today. Next week I'm going to play in the eastern half, which is where I believe I will have a better chance at finding a few (or one). Thought I'd save that practice till closer to the tourney date. My partner used to fish a weeknight series there with VanDam years ago so we have some OLD spots to check out and see if they still produce. Wish me luck on the Dead Sea - I'll need it!

I love fishing Gun in the fall. There is a trough on the shallow end of the lake that you can really catch them on Bandit crankbaits. It has held up for the last couple of years in the middle to end of sept. Let me know if you want more info.

Are you refering to the sandsucker hole in front of the 'old' State Park Beach? I'd love to chat with you more. You can email direct at fasttrack@grar.com if you want.
My partner went out on Sat (in the rain) and caught some short fish. He had two keeper smallies follow a 'trap up to the boat near Party Island but otherwise didn't do much. Two friends went out Sun. am and caught 5 pike, some short fish, and one keeper on a Wiggle Wart on a breakline.

m - I've never been on Gun Lake - odd since I've been on Gull a bunch. I'll see if I can look at a map this weekend and see what looks good. It seems similar enough to some other lakes to make some educated guesses about fall fishing there. I've always heard from good anglers that it is a good lake with nice bass. Just have to crack the code like every other lake. I love fall bass fishing.
Sounds like fishingguru has some or a lot of the code cracked...
Some day I'll get over there and check the lake out. This year might not work, but someday.

mdehol check your personal messages. If you send me a map I will show you exactly the spot. It's not that hard to find and you need to throw 100 series bandits in spring craw color and green pumpkin tubes.
