I'd love to fish Erie sometime, but I don't have any Erie experience other than a charter that we did last year in 4 and 5 footers. That was enough to convince me that I don't want to be out on a windy day on Erie.

Hey NB, I just figured out the email problem. Your mailbox is full according to your email server. You need to clear the messages off of the server.

Hi guys! I'm one of Revtro's friends. Nice ideas on all the posts. I've been reading them for the last month or so. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. I like the idea of keeping the tournaments down to about 7 with a classic at end of season. I enjoy taking a couple of trips to the lake for practice and with more than 7 tournaments it will get pretty hard to pre-fish on a normal basis. In our old club we had 8 tournaments. That worked out pretty good. Fished 5 on St. Clair and only 3 inland. I would sacrifice some St. Clair tournaments for one or two more inland lakes. I'm interested in trying some lakes I've never fished before. It would be a good learning experience for me. By the way, I'm not a fan of Kent Lake or Stoney Creek, but I'd fish them. Open to just about anything local. I would like to keep the distances reasonible though. I also was on the charters in Huron and Erie. Both were rockin' when we were out . Last year we did launch one tournament out of the St. Clair River at the North Launch. That could allow you to fish Huron if we were open to that. I think it was off limits for us last year. Another couple of things I feel strongly about are fees and fish mortality. I would really like to see the fees held to a minimum. I believe gas makes up the biggest expense. Everyone's idea about gas sounds good so far. For me personally, I like making the Big Fish pot voluntary. I think that keeping fees low would help people fish tournaments for the experience without the high costs of entry fees. If they don't like this format (meaning tournament fishing) they're really not out alot of money. I hope this also puts the emphasis on sportsmanship, not payouts. I think this is what people will notice and like about this club. I also hope we only do boatside weigh-ins. We used the Golden Rule method for weigh-ins last season and I thought it worked well. Obviously the weights were not as accurate but the fish were returned unharmed. I think using a digital scale would resolve most of our problems. Accurate weight with fish returning to the water close to where they were caught. I had an instance during the spawn last year where I caught a nice largemouth on a bed in the morning and later that afternoon, my partner for the day caught the same bass on the same bed. Important Note: I had to leave early that day and I was not in the boat. Proves to me that if returned to the water quickly they'll go right back (or close to) where you caught them. I just can't see keeping bass in the livewell for no real reason. I know that honesty could be one reason to bring fish for weigh-in. But I don't think we'll have that problem since we should have a different partner most of the time. So if someone is cheating, it won't take long to weed them out. I only say that because there were a couple of questionable instances last season. I already have a Golden Rule on my boat, so legal length is clearly visible and using the scale to weigh is even more accurate. For a club that is primarily for fun and education the scales would be an excellant solution for weigh-ins. I hope this doesn't sound harsh. That's not my intention. I'm just stressing my opinion is all. Again, I'm really looking forward to meeting you and also fishing with you in the future. I wonder if this is the longest first post anyone has ever made!

Hey BassPlayer, You bring up an interesting issue with the immediate release format, catching the same fish more than once. We will have to talk about this, see you later this week.

Agreed. That's an important issue. However, I don't know how it can be avoided except to say that most of the time a bass wouldn't probably bite again just after being caught unless it's protecting a bed. So once the spawn is over, it's probably not as much of an issue. The situation BassPlayer is referencing was unusual in the sense that he and his partner fished together, then he had to leave early and his partner went back to the same spot to try to catch that big fish again. Personally I think it was kind of unethical for the other angler to do that. So perhaps we can just agree to not do that if a similar situation arises where a partner has to leave a tournament early.

Pretty simple solution Revtro - among friends should be simple...

I agree. As a matter of fact, that's the whole reason I decided to start a new club this year. I wanted to form a club where the friendships could develop and better sportsmanship would take place. I think we're on the right track. So far, we appear to have a good group of guys to kick this club off. I'm really looking forward to the first meeting on Friday night.

I think you are on to a good idea here. I am new to the club scene. fished BFL the past 2 years, and had a blast. Met ssome great people, and learned a bit about the big water. I was hooked enough to get a new 520, and give it a try myself this year - so many circuits, so little time and $$$. I plan on hitting the 4 Everstarts as a non-boater, and now looking for a place to park the rest of the season - aba, nbaa, catt, bfl's, fereration, ..... not sure yet - as so many conflict as well. Perhaps the club thing here is the way to go. I would be highly interested in sitting down at a meeting in the next month or 2 and having a chat anyhow as tourney $$$ need to be committed. Look me up here, or at plasticjack2002@yahoo.com and lets set up a meeting maybe in Feb?
spring is 12 weeks away!

Hi Jack, Please come to our next meeting if you can. We just met last week and had a great first meeting. The guys who have responded all seem like great guys. We have our schedule set for the 2005 season and we did our best to stay away from aba's, nbaa's and other tourney trails. One cool thing I discovered is that most of the guys in the club will also be fishing other trails. So in our discussions the other night I was talking to several other guys about fishing different events with them. One guy needs a partner for nbaa's another guy needs a partner for some catt's. I'll be fishing some aba's too. I'm looking forward to getting a taste of what each of these trails is like. Maybe next year I'll have a better idea of which trail I prefer. Perhaps being in a club with guys who fish such a variety of events will help you discover which trails you prefer as well. I'll post when our next meeting is going to be as soon as we figure that out. I'll also drop you an email.
