Mark your calendars for the 2006 Crossroads for Youth Fishing Event (www.crossroadsforyouth.org/ - Oxford, MI) on Saturday, July 22, 2006.We had a great time this past year at the first event organized by Anthony Adams and sponsored by Gander Mountain, Xtreme Bass Tackle and several other companies (I'll add them as soon as someone refreshes my memory). We had a little less than 20 boats and took ~40 kids out fishing - some who had never fished before. The first event was held on Lakeville Lake, but Anthony wants to try a larger lake, and we are announcing much earlier this year so we hope all you great and helpful anglers will help us get two or more times as many kids out fishing. I think Anthony has picked about the best day he could for not conflicting with too many tournaments. So please check your calendar and consider helping out at this very worthwhile event.-Lake to be announced (possibly Cass Lake) -Hours to be announced -Meal provided after the kids fishing event -Volunteer boaters needed, life vests and some fishing tackle will be provided by sponsors for the event, donations welcome For more information and/or to volunteer contact: Anthony Adams 586-202-3594 aadams@americanbassanglers.com

If you guys want to get involved in something 'real', this event is it. The kids at the crossroads youth center were great last year. And the reward of seeing the excitement and anticipation on there faces will leave you with a buzz all day. I am fired up about this. Last year was AWESOME! The kids were all very greatful, well behaved, and from everyone i talked to who attended, all the kids walked away with a love for the outdoors. After only fishing once in there lives for some of them. It is a great feeling passing it on to the kids who otherwise may never get the opportunity. If you are able to attend this event, please do so. We want to see more volunteers and more eager new anglers from the center this year. Some other sponsors from last years event were K&E Stopper Lures and V&M Tackle. SOme of the volunteer anglers also brought tackle to give away as well. PoorBoy himself

I'll bring it up at our first meeting for next year. I should be able to recruit some boaters.
Like poorboy said, there is nothing like seeing a kids face when they catch their first fish. "Priceless"
I taught a fishing class at our church this past summer. What a ball. Most of the kids never even picked up a fishing rod let alone actually fished. Taught them knot tying, the different lures, the different fish, the different reals, ect... , and was able to take them to a local pond and have them apply what they had learned. Out of 36 kids only 1 didn't catch a fish. 1 even caught a 20 inch cat fish.
