i finally got a call back from Cabelas this sunday. it was roughly 11:30 am when the service dept manager called a left a message saying ' hey brian, this is john at cabelas. just wanted to let you know that your boat has BEEN DONE and you can come pick it up tonite or next week'.
heres what gets me...first of all it took 4 phone calls over the course of 3 weeks to even get a call back, and second he said my boat has been done. well i wonder how long it has been done for. sure would have been nice to have it on saturday.
now i am not trying to give cabelas a bad name because i know they finished the boat in a decent amount of time. true it was about 3 weeks longer than they told me it would take, but still in this state, at least from my expereinces and from what i hear from other boat owners, a month is pretty decent turn around time when you take into consideration how many people in the area actually own boats and have them in for service. but to call on a sunday and tell me my boat has BEEN DONE is just stupid. if the thing has been done wouldnt you think these geniuses would call when it was actually done??? maybe they do not realize that we have very few weekends left to use boats before the snow and ice are here. maybe they dont really care. but i do, and i may not be a well known local pro or guide but i am still a paying customer and when i am paying someone to do something i would at least expect the courtesy of a call back or an update or an estimate on time if the original estimate can not be met. and i sure as hell expect a call letting me know EXACTLY when my boat is ready. not a day after, not two days after.
i had explained to this guy that i still have to test run the boat for as many hours as possible to make sure everything is in working order. i also have to prep the boat for winter. and on top of all that i have to get it down to Arkansas before any big snow storms hit. and then possibly pick it back up and bring it back to Michigan for storage.
where is the common sense?
sorry for venting but i feel it is my civic duty to inform my fellow anglers of this type of treatment. next time you have a boat problem, take this into consideration before choosing Cabelas to work on it.
now, i must wait another week before i will have time to pick the boat up from Dundee. and even then, it will have to be late saturday or early sunday. which again doesnt leave me too much time to do what i need to do.
Thanks again Cabelas
