I will be fishing Lake St Clair in the next few weeks and I have a few ?. I think we are going to try the rivers mostly St Clair. Was wondering what size lead head to use? I have a couple tube colors picked out Canadian mist by xtreme and St Clair special by snack daddy any other ideas? Also was wondering if anyone was doing any good in the rivers? Thanks for any help. I am heading down there on Saturday, I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. I don't plan to hit the river, but I have been there once and remember a ton of current. I used 1/2 ounce and broke off quite a bit. When I uised 3/8 it didn't seem as bad, but I couldn't feel bottom as well. I would use spiderwire or fireline, too. That helps with feel, and slices through the water better. Less stretch when you set the hook down deep, too. My buddy Blakstr1 swears by fireline in the river.
I remember the fish being in 20 feet plus. Good luck, and let me know how you do in pre-fishing. As for colors, that's anybody's guess. ???Goby would be my choice.

Those are good colors. Try green-pumpkin. I like the orange flake, or chartreuse and purple flake both in the channels. I have a brochure on my products page you can download in MS Word format that has a list of my favorite St. Clair tube colors you can read. I use 1/4 for a lot of casting to edges and out of the strong current, even deep. I used 5/16, 3/8, 1/2 and sometimes 3/4 for deep in the current. Depends on wind, snags, depth and what the bass are kind enough to 'tell' me. One thing I experiment a lot with is tube head shape.

I'm wondering how many different colors there are being called goby. The only two I'm familiar with are the smoke pepper with combinations of gold/silver/copper flakes which I used to throw a lot 7 or 8 years ago, and Wayne's St. Clair Goby which is a dark smoke laminate over a small hologram flake light smoke tube. That's the one I've been using the past few seasons.

I've used the Xtreme color "St. Clair Goby" for the first time this year in the 5" version. It has done well for me on Clair.
I've also used it quite a bit on inland lakes, and frankly I've done great with it there as well.
With the laminate dark top, and lighter bottome it immitates a minow quite well.
I experiment with weights. Depth and current being the determinate factor.
I don't have anything heavier than a 3/8, but have wished several times that I did.

Since we're talking about the St. Clair Goby, I have to say that this has been my number one producing tube this year. In a tournament last month, my partner wasn't catching and I was. He switched to the goby like I was using and BAM, we nearly won the tourney. It rare that one particular color outfishes the others for an entire season, but this year the goby has done just that for me. I have been throwing greens, pumpkins, and watermelons like normal, but the goby out produces every time. (at least this year) It's kind of strange and I can't explain it. Watch..next year it'll all be about the Canadian Mist color. Now we just need to get them to make x-worms in 5" models. That would rock since the 5" Senko type baits are such a powerful tool in the arsenal year 'round.
