Dan said that it was probably best to forget about Sunday's day on the river. We did terrible. Not that we didn't try hard. We just didn't catch much. A couple of keepers and that's it. Neither one was over about 2.5lbs.

Shoot! Now I remember again! To add insult to injury, sounds like some guys pasted 'em good too. You should have made me abandon the 'plan' earlier I guess.
Now I will try to forget Sunday again.
Eric, you must have young guys eyes. Mine had sunscreen in them and were sore and blurry.
I was wondering... are they making a Save Phace helmet now with a reinforced rear protective cover - possibly 'the Jeff Bishop' model?

;D ;D ;D Poor Bish. Sounds like he took it like a man tho. I dont mean to sound like a wimp, but if i had a hook stuck in my head i would probably start screaming like a little girl. Hey Cameraguy and Dan dont feel too bad. I still feel that Eric and I did everything right on saturday and we just couldnt catch them. And my boater on day 2 and I were making drifts and not catching them, but other boats would line up ahead of us and drift the same area and they all caught fish. She is a tough one. But you learn something everytime you go out. We found some fish at the very end of the day on Sunday that i am confident will be there this weekend. And im going out to catch them. PoorBoy himself

I'm sure Madman and Eric were in the ABA. Did you guys pull it off at the end of the day?
We couldn't pull of a simple tube jig trick.
dartag, it seems like it is always about midnight by the time I get home from work, eat dinner and finish my chores before I get on the Internet. Lately, I've been going at half to only quarter speed too (well actually only about 5% speed today) because of computer and now network problems.
I have to get another laptop, so there's a couple more weeks and I'm waiting for a service call tomorrow on why my DSL is down. Oh well, I plan on doing a lot of fishing for the State Championship next week and I DON'T WANT TO BE A DONATER!!
I did get the bass season page updated. Need to write some letters yet too, but that can wait until after the SC next week. Wonder if these gas prices keep going up if I'll be doing a trolling motor only event?

We were in the ABA. We both managed top 20 finishes, so we are both really happy with how we fished.

It was tough for me both days... I was very dissapointed because i've been able to go catch like 17 lbs just messing around... On day one of the ABA event I caught about 25 keepers... nothing big... best 5 went 11.6 lbs... where did all my 3 lbers go? Those were my two biggest... not very big as you can see... Day 2.... I thought I could whack another limit... wrong... wrooong...total opposite... only caught 4 keepers all day... but I got 2 good ones... caught a bunch of shorts though... I weighed 12.4 for 4 fish... not bad... couldn't get my last keeper... oh well... how bad did that South wind suck? Gotta figure them out... me and Brian are gonna run away with the Wonderland Owners Tournament... Good luck to the guys fishing the State Championship thing... Jose

Well, a better day for me yesterday on the river and channels. I did not go up the hog heaven (as the guys with 23+ and 7+ big bass) because of the following weekend experience. I was hoping I could do the catch one nice one here and there while catching an easy limit.
The big one here and there idea didn't work out, but I did catch about 20 keepers, just spread out over a whole bunch of spots. The only thing I noticed that really stuck out was Wayne's Canadian Mist twin tail was working a lot better than tubes - much easier.
I caught about half my bass on Wayne's twin tail on a football head (1/2 ounce). I did not feel a lot of the bites, but the twin tail bite seemed to be more solid and sure than the tube bite. I probably missed almost as many on tubes as I caught trying several different colors, sizes and weights.
I'm hoping the bigger fish bite picks up as I get back in the swing of things and the twin tail gives me a little edge maybe (don't tell anyone until after the tournament) but man are those guys whacking the monster toads and I'm really rusty this year - I've only been over there about 6 times.
Another day and a half to get on the big ones just like so many others. At least I can get a limit probably, but as Garza pointed out, that isn't a given, and a whole lot more than a limit will be needed to make this state team.

I feel your pain Dan. I was out this weekend with fishon#### aka Kevin Barrows. HE has a tournament coming up and asked if i might help him find some fish. We hit the launch at around 7:30 am and after a short boat ride in ideal conditions, we arrived at the first stop. Fawn Island. We worked a point on the north side of the island (20ft up to about 12 ft ) with no action. A few more drifts without a bite and it was time to move. Next we headed a little farther north and began another drift. Still nothing. I was beginning to feel a little discouraged. But being that it was only my 3rd time to that area, i was still confident that we would catch fish, we just had to find out where they were. We were learning as we went. The next spot was a few more miles north, near the stacks. A spot that my boater and I had checked out in the 2 day ABA tournament. We didnt catch anything there but i had lost 2 that were well over 3 lbs. It didnt take long for kevin to set up with a nice chunky keeper. Now i was feeling good. A few minutes later, and he was reeling in another keeper. And then another, and yet antoher. Now i was feeling bad. I wasnt catching anything. We drifted down river, Kevin catching and releasing. Me just kinda hanging out. I blamed it on boat control, tho my trolling motor was still locked in the stow postiton. Finally i hook up. A small but fiesty river smallmouth. Kevin then trumped me by landing a solid 4 lber. By days end, Kevin has caught and landed around 10 smallmouth, with all but one being good solid keepers. His best 5 would have went 16+ lbs. My best 5 would have gone 5.5 lbs because i only had 2. So once you carry the 1, and then divide by pie, and then subtract .00948 thats what it comes out to. I still blame it on boat control, but had a good time non the less. I think the whole day ended up costing poor Kevin about $150 dollars in gas, beer, and food. But its a small price to pay for a day on the water with me ;D And next time, its on me. PoorBoy himself

Poorboy, Thanks for the great day on the water. I really enjoyed myself dispite of your guide fee. I went back out on tuesday morning just to get a feel in my little bathtub of run time etc. and it is doable if the weather cooperates. I didnt fare as well as we did on sunday, but I am blaming it on tube color, and boat control. You are way better at boat control in the river than I will ever be. I did manage to catch a few over 3 at one of the spots we hit. That is were i will start on Sunday. Hopefully all of the fishoff guys will leave a few for me. Thanks again for a great day on the water. Next time we take my boat and you pay for the hooters experience. Fishon1219

the ol boat control excuse works everytime. But you have to make sure the trolling motor is in the water when you use that excuse. If you remember on our trip, i didnt have the trolling motor in the water half the time i was blaming my poor fishing on boat control. But i still used the excuse. sometimes its the only thing that makes you feel better. And of course Hooters is on me next time. PoorBoy himself
