Those few organized groups who are members of the MDNR coolwater external committee are waiting for a meeting sometime very soon (in lieu of the canceled November 04 meeting) to review a new survey being written by someone at MSU.
This is supposed to be a more general survey on Michigan bass angler bass and season attitudes that will be mailed out shortly after review to 10,000 to 15,000 licensed anglers selected at random.
Someone from the Michigan BASS Chapter Federation will attend the meeting for Ron Spitler since he is on vacation in Florida (he goes this same time every year). Right now probably, the representative will be federation president Dennis Beltz.
The survey may not include the actual scenarios. I'm aware that the MDNR does not want to address scenario 8 since it "has so little support."
As soon as someone gets a survey to me somehow, we'll take a look at it. In the meantime, talk to you friends and neighbors about what we are trying to do and why. Only 1 in about 130 to 180 anglers will get a survey.
Many anglers don't fish for bass with the desire that we do. They won't have the same desire to have more bass fishing if they only fish for bass 4 or 5 times a year, or maybe not at all if they prefer some other type of fish. Additionally if you tell that angler "bass 'may' be harmed if we lengthen the season so do you think we should 'mitigate' this by shortening the catch-and-keep season" what are the odds that angler will go along with it?
