Every year, several of my friends and I go to one of those Bassmaster Universities just to have some connection to the sport while we're going through the winter withdrawals. Not that we learn very much, but it's fun getting away for a few days and talking fishing and getting some autographs and pics. Anyway, because of the schedule this year, we've decided not to go to any of the Bassmaster Universities.
So, what we're thinking of doing is finding a tournament somewhere South where it's warm in January or February and going for a week to fish and get our fix to tide us over until our season starts up here. If anyone hears of a tournament that might not be too terribly expensive to enter in a nice part of the South during that time of year, please let me know. We're gonna start looking into the possibility. I'm not sure if we can work out a trip, but we're hopeful.
Areas to consider are generally East. We can't afford a trip to CA. We're initially thinking FL, LA, GA, SC, etc. Basically the Eastern side of the US where we could drive in a day or less.

check out the American Bass Anglers website. They have a ton of southern divisions. Plus, if you fish a tournament with them, you will be paired up with a local. Better odds of learning a thing or two fishing with someone who knows the lake. www.americanbassanglers.comPoorBoy himself

Your best bet East for really warm weather in Jan-Feb would be Florida. Tons of tournaments all year.
I fished a tournament in February in 2001 in Alabama on Lake Martin and still frooze my... well it was real cold. It was in the 20s in the morning with ice cold rain and slippery hills and curves.
I did NOT enjoy sliding done the boat ramp each morning much either. I said a bad word one morning when I started to jackknife sideways and showed no signs of stopping my camper at the bottom of the ramp. Not fun.
You could hit it in the 50s and 60s alright, but you could also hit it in the 20s and 30s too anywhere North of the Florida border. Now, if you slip toward mid-March, or end of March, Santee-Cooper in SC could be something...

I love Florida, so I'll check out what ABA has going on. Thanks for the feedback.
