Usually after work on Wednesdays, I have been going up to Orchard Lake and fishing. But for some reason I decided to go to Belleville again. And I am glad I did.
I hooked up with my neighbor Dave from down the street. We got out there about 1600 hours. We started down on my consistant row of docks that I have been catching fish on and were not disappointed. Dave hooked a nice smallie, but got so excited because he hadn't been fishing in about two weeks tried to "horse" him in and lost him at the boat. I then hooked about a 2 pound smallie and landed him, teasing Dave on how to "finesse" the fish to the boat and not "horse" it. Then I hooked a 14 inch largemouth about 25 yards down. Dave then caught a nice smallie and the end of the row.
We then went to the spot just west of the Denton Road bridge and didn't get a bite. We had seen some shad jumping by the Belleville Road bridge so decided to fish the rip rap along the road. We caught 4 decent smallies there. I had three and Dave had one.
We then went back to the row of docks where we started and fished the other way from the original way we had fished earlier. Dave caught two nice keeper smallies. One was 2 pounds and the other over 2.5 pounds. I caught one keeper smallie that was about 2 pounds and then another that could have been its twin just about 20 feet down.
The water temp at the start was 62 and when we returned later it was 60. Maybe the magic number for schoolies is 60. We were only there at the end for about 10 minutes and the fish were just there. I may have to try Belleville in the morning this weekend. It will depend upon the wind and weather. I sure would like to hit St. Clair one more or two more times before the end of the month. Or maybe even try Erie again. ;D
