We fished Grand and Long this past weekend for our club openers, I was able to finish with 2nd place on Grand 15.38lbs and 5th on Long 13.55lbs, (my co-angler beat me from the back of the boat to win the tournament). 17.5lbs won on Grand and 15.35 won on Long. Both lakes have the smallies locked to the beds, but more so on the south ends of the lakes, the north ends have warmed rapidly and are beginning to be spawned out.
All of the Grand success came around the islands, beds from 8 feet of water all the way to shore. We spent the day on Long Lake working the long rock points that had pencil reeds on them, beds about every 8 feet in most areas along the edges of the rocks. I noticed the water temps at both lakes almost had to be 65 degrees exclusively or the beds were empty.
Great weekend caught about 30 bass a day, most all were quality fish too.

So YOU are the one that roughed up the fish on Grand! I was there for a team tournament on Sunday and all the fish on the islands were picked over real good. Black Bass Bay was a ghost town. What was the winning weight at Grand? Had to be good to top 15+! I know there aren't that many hogs left by that time in spring. We sorted through plenty of fish, but not much over 2 pounds with a few loner 3's here and there. Lots of wary fish.
