Well our first season as The Eastside Bass Anglers was a success. We're still small though so we want some of you guys on the East Side to consider joining us. We especially need nonboaters. (co-anglers). We had 8 events this year with an average turnout of 10 fishermen. Among the more fun things we did was have both Wayne Carpenter and Dan Kimmel out to a couple of our meetings. Learning is what we're about, so it was awesome to have those guys come and share with us. Gerry Gostenik has said he'd be willing to come talk to our club to at some point, so when I know we're gonna meet and have enough guys attend, I'm planning on inviting him to come.
What really impressed me is how all the club guys were so good about keeping it fun without all the needless competitive stuff that so often goes with tournament fishing. Don't get me wrong. We did compete, but everyone was casual about things like return times, weigh method, launch time, etc. Since we don't fish for cash, we didn't have one single controversy all season long! (how many tourneys can say that?) And when the events were over, guys were more than willing to share what they had learned or what helped them do well. I had a great time and can't wait until next year.
Being in a club is an awesome way to hone your skills and practice for tournaments. But it also has the extra added advantage of being a way to meet a few guys and make friends. I'm sure though we'll have a few guys who won't be able to fish this club next year because of all the circuits out there now, so we definitely want to get some more members. If you live anywhere on the East side of the state, you might want to check us out. Go ahead and email me at tomouweleen@yahoo.com and I'll tell you more about us and let you know when we're going to meet.
