I happend to stumble upon my new biggest Largemouth bass ever last night 5-11-05. My friend and i went out at 6:30 pm on Crooked River. We went into a little canal that a marina sits at the end of and started to fish for perch. We anchored in about 2 fow and cast out to deeper (bout 5') water. My buddy turns around and says to me theres a fish. I turned around and in about 6 inches to a foot of water is a nice about 3lbs bass. I was stunned that the fish were already up in the shallows. We left it alone knowing that were not supposed to be fishing for them (ok one or 2 cast never hurt anyone). After no hits for about an hour we moved up canal and anchored again i cast out and sat shivering (it was windier than well you get the picture). My bobber went slowly down i just watched thinking it was a weed when it popped up. I grabbed my rod and the bobber went back down. I set the hook and felt some serious weight . The fish dove hard and my buddy got into position to land it and said "Thats a dandy" my light action rod and 8lb test line were definatly getting a workout along with my drag
screaming. Finally landed the big largemouth. Of course I had no scale or camera. Iwould have guessed the fish between 5 and 6 lbs. Anyway definatly my biggest largemouth ever. We looked and gauked and then turned the old girl loose. We trolled moved around and saw one more about 3 lb bass which my pal temporarily hooked. Awesome night of fishing anyway for cold windy conditions. You guys may know the area. I'll give you a hint Dans got a flyover picture of it on his web page
P.S. We were really fishing for perch and i caught the fish on a teeny piece of night crawler on a bare red hook. Water temps have to be the warmest of anywater around here right now (dont have a thermosthat but could definatly feel the difference with my hand.)
