Fished Kent lake in livingston county on friday and saturday and didnt fare to well. I tried in front of the beaches, but the water temp was at 84 degrees and all of the floating weeds were dead. I didnt even see any bluegills around there. I then tried the very west end of the lake and found lots of bait fish, but I just wasent able to catch any keeper Bass. I know there are some hogs out there. Does anybody have any idea of were to catch them this time of year. Should I focues on the deeper west end or spend a little more time flipping the weed mat's in 6 ft of water.

There should be a good shallow bite right now. If you are pitching/flipping it can be a little tricky. Kent lake is full of 'ideal' looking structure to pitch at, but a lot of it doesnt hold fish. i dont know why, but i have spent many days pitching all the wood on the shoreline, all the matted weeds, lily pads, etc.. and not done well. but if you can find the areas that the fish are relating to and pitch, you can do very good. I like to target the points with weeds coming to the surface. there will always be fish on the points in kent lake. i dont care what time of year it is, there will be fish on the points. if you can find some heavier cover on a point, flip your bait around it. you will catch fish. Another great spot is behind the islands on the west end of the lake. Bring a push pole with you tho, cuz your not getting through the area with a trolling motor. It is the weediest part of the lake. Flip baits in the holes in the grass and hold on tight. I would suggest using a braid or super line because the weeds are ridiculous. Frogs work well back there too. And you can always hit the main lake channel edge. its deeper, about 9 - 11 feet, but this time of year there are always good fish hanging around the edges. work soft plastic creature baits on the bottom with a 1/4 oz bullet weight. it can be slow fishing, but the fish are generally going to run bigger. I have caught most of my bigger bass on kent lake working the channel edges. Topwater can produce on Kent lake all day long. especially if it is overcast! next time you are out there and its cloudy, throw a pop r or any topwater bait. Buzzbaits are another great choice this time of year. and they work just about anywhere you can find heavy weeds with open water over or around them. it doesnt matter if its 1 foot or 8 feet. you can catch them on buzzbaits. if it is super sunny and no winds, go deeper and slow down with a soft stick bait like a senko or an x worm, i like the 4" out there. My favorite spot is in the back lake by the dam. On both sides of the channel the fish stack up. I was out there about a month ago on a hot slick day and caught about 30 fish in about 2 hours. All i was doing was throwing to the weeds and working the bait as slow as i could. hope this helps. PoorBoy himself

Practised on Kent again sunday and took poorboys advice. My partner and I had a steller morning using Jig N Pig in the area north of the islands. We caught 3 that were over 5 lbs and 5 that were 4 pounds easiy. What a great day, it was one of the days were we could do no wrong and every cast had the anticipation of another hog. What a great lake. I hope I have the same opinion after the tournament this coming sunday. Thanks again for the help Fishon

Had the club tournament this past Sunday. On my 5th cast I landed a 5 pounder, on my next cast I broke off on the hook set, re riggged, cast, broke off on the hook set, re rigged cast, landed a 4 1/2 pounder, cast again landed a 4 pounder. In total I had 17 lbs in the boat by 8:00. My back seater ended up with 3 fish for 10 pounds. He got second. Thanks for alll the help Fishon

Glad i could help. I was out there last night for a few hours. Got one largemouth over 4 and one over 2 lbs, both on traps. My friend kicked my butt catching 5 fish, 4 being keepers. but mostly around 2.5 lbs.
I thought we were going to kill them yesterday. Especially with the little cold front we had.
I missed a few hits on the tube. But i think had i been slow rolling a spinnerbait along some shallow weedlines i would have done better. I went out on his boat, and only brought what was tied on my 3 rods.
Way to go on the win. Now spill your guts, where and with what. PoorBoy wants a 5!

I was fishing in 10 ft of water just to the east of the freeway bridge. I was staying right were it drops off into the river channel. When I got into the scatered weeds in that depth, i got bit. I was throwing a green pumpkin zoom finesse worm texas rigged with 1/4 ounce bullet weight. Throw it out, let it sink, Shake it all the way back to the boat picking up the slack when i would lower the rod to shake it again. The fish were all there when I would start to shake again. I caught them all day in that area even with the high winds on sunday.
