As published in the paper around Wixom Lake, they plan to work on the dam starting shortly after Memorial Day with work continuing to early fall. They plan to lower the water level about 20"!! I know this will affect at least a few bass clubs out there, the thing I can't confirm yet is whether or not this will affect any of the other lakes connected to the river empoundment. I would think so, the water has to go somewhere. They are also proposing, since the water level will be down, why not do weed contol at the same time. This isn't sounding good... I'll keep you all posted as I get more information.

Make sure you get out there and GPS any structure that appears when they drain it.

They are dropping it 20 inches? That's not a ton. You'll see some stuff, but not like you could with a more drastic drop - assuming you could still get on the lake somehow.
Are there any ramps they expect to still be usable?

When I read this post the other day, I had to call up to my friend Woodrow who lives on Wixom Lake. Wood put me in contact with the Wixom Lake Association President Gene Kruger. I called Mr. Kruger and ended up getting all the information on the draw down of the lake from Mrs. Kruger.
Mrs. Kruger told me that the draw down of Wixom Lake to do maintenance on the dam was set for September 7, 2005. This date has been posted in the Wixom Lake Association Newsletter. The lake will be drawn down until November 15, 2005. All residents of the lake are urged to remove their boats from the water on or before September 6, 2005 which is the day after Labor Day. The lake will be drawn down 36 to 40 inches. Mrs. Kruger told me that in no way would they draw down the lake on Memorial Day. Especially with the whole summer season ahead. So fear not fellow bass anglers......the lake will not be drawn down until September allowing all the tournaments planned on the lake throughout the summer to go on as scheduled with no complications from a draw down. Hope this clears up any misconceptions.

Makes more sense, but nothing truly surprises me with some actions, especially if anglers aren't involved.
That's a fairly significant drawdown if over 3 foot. Wonder if there will be a way to get on the lake still to do some sight-seeing?

Dan, I'm guessing that even if you could launch at the DNR ramp, you'd be confined to the Tobacco River side of the lake. You wouldn't get pass the bridge between the dams. If you could get into the Tittabawassee side, you could make it all the way up to the river, at least. I bet you would see some interesting stuff along the way. There should be some interesting stuff on the Tobacco side, too.

Yeah - and I don't want to be finding any more stuff with my outboard. Not fun!

the owners of the store/launch in albright shores is talking about dredging that out more and maybe adding more dockage. if they dredge out to the river channle we might be able to slip out there..we'll have to wait and see.

Well after a number of months struggling to get an activation code I was finally able to get one. It's been awhile since I late posted, but I have been reading.
What is the word on Wixom as of right now, 9-7-05. Is it down or being drawn down now or over a long period of time. I would like to get out and find a few things if possible.
Thanks Pat

Hey Dan. My other email worked for my activation key. Thanx. Since I was the one who had contacted the association on Wixom Lake back in April or May, I took it upon myself to find out why they cancelled the drawdown. The answer is...........................The dam wasn't that badly in need of repair. They are going to eventually do it, but no future date has been set.
