Fished after work to practice a bit for the Wixom Lake Freeze Out tournament which was being held on Saturday, put on by the Wonderland Guys. I managed about a 2.5lb LM within the first 20 minutes on a black/blue jig. I had my boat in about 24 feet and was casting up on the flat and pulling it down the drop off. I pulled that fish and moved on to my second spot I wanted to check out. About a half hour after I stopped to my 2nd spot I hit another solid 2.5lb LM, again on the jig but in about 5 or 6 feet of water pulling along the weed patches. I checked out 1 more spot and like that it was dark, tough this time of year. I also saw lots of pike and tons of gills.

Well the morning of the open, it was cold but we were ready to fish. pretty good turn out about 20 boats coming from all over, $85/team and $15/team Big Bass and 100% pay-out at the ramp, that's good enough to keep me out of the bow stand on a Saturday morning. I took the draw honors for our team and pulled LUCKY NUMBER....17? oh well at least we could watch where everybody went?? We strapped on our Fish Hedz and put the hammer down, sprinting for the M30 bridge, our spot (and many others) wasn't very far into the Tittabawassee side of M30. We began working the drop with fierce intensity, be balanced our lures to keep a variety going in the water, we were excited enough that I barely noticed it was in the 30's!! We were joined by 8 other boats but they were all fishing shallower, we stuck with our gameplan..but stuck to long. We decided to leave that spot and go to some other spots my partner had wanted to try, it seemd we fished all over the lake for a solid 5 or 6 hours without a BITE. Then I made a choice to go back to the spot we had started from and see what was up shallow. We tied on our most finesse lures we had and began swimming them through the weeds and along the slight drops, all in about 8 feet of water or so and alas, we found the BASS! We didn't get on this spot until the last hour and a half or so, but preceded to catch 8 or 9 here but unluckily for us only 3 keepers. Thats how we finished too 3 fish for about 6 lbs. We recognized guys at the ramp weighing in 7 fish for 16lbs or so fishing right at that spot we discovered. Live and learn, we will be ready for next year I guess. At the weigh in we discovered about 8 limits of 7 fish I guess, our weight landed us somewhere in the middle of the pack. Big fish 2 went almost 4.5lbs. All-in-all a great way to spend a Saturday in late October.
