I would like to talk to you all about my luck. im sure you have heard me mention my luck, or lack there of, in past reports. well heres one more to confirm that i am indeed cursed.
Sundays ABA Open tournament proved to be the icing on the cake for this unfortunate soul. i drew an existing ABA member and a hell of a fisherman and nice guy. upon talking to him before blast off, we realized that we both had the exact same game plan. this was great, now i dont have to convince someone to run to my spots. we were already going that way.
he had mentioned to me that he spent all weekend fixing his boat to get ready for this tournament. part of the fixins involved a trip to pennsylvania and $5200 in repairs. so obviously it was no small task. he then mentioned that he was having trouble getting on plane and it might be a slow go across the lake. im thinking no big deal. if he only knew what my past 4 trips on st clair were like, he would realize that not too much is going to discourage me at this point.
well, we managaed to get on plane and shoot to the area we would be fishing. about a mile from the spot, he blew a hole in a piston. after a few minutes of tinkering he decided the boat was still ok to run. well, that is once i figured out his fuel pump wasnt working. so to the back of the boat i go to squeeze the primer ball and flush gas into the motor. once the motor was going and we were going fast enough, the gas flowed by itself. my next task was standing on the nose of the boat to help it on plane. 8 hours of this was not that bad, you do what you have to do to gitter done.
the day went by quickly with not a fish to show. both of us with zeros, we decided to go for some largies on our way back. we stopped off at a bay and began fishing. one hour, no hits. so broken and beaten we decided to call it a day. but theres a problem. boat wont start at all now. luckily a friend of mine and fellow ABAer was close to us and towed us in.
Now, out of the last 5 times on lsc i have been towed off 4. anyone got that beat?
still had fun and made the best of the situation by gorging myself on stale trail mix and some dry rotted beaf jerky. would have been nice to at least of caught a fish. felt bad for my boater tho, i could tell he was miffed about his boat, i felt his pain.
