The first ABA tournament for 2005 has come and gone, and in its wake has left me heartbroken with a 9th place finish. I would, however, like to congratulate jcheetam on a 3rd place finish on what was without a doubt, one of the toughest bites to be had on Kent Lake this season. Way to go man, dont forget my birthday is in 2 weeks. Here are the top five weights and big bass. Ryan Said - 14.75 Nick Ryan - 11.87 Jeff Cheetam - 11.69 Doug Ward - 11.31 Jon Jezierski - 11.06 Dab Cobley - 4.25 lbs - Big Bass - Smallie The next tournament will be on Cass Lake on May 14th. This will also be a paper tournament. If anyone has questions, please feel free to email me ( bassass2@yahoo.com ). Hope some of you can make it! PoorBoy himself

Thanks Brian. It was a tough day for sure. I was pretty lucky to get three fish quick in the morning and spent the next 7 hours looking to fill out the limit.
You really have to give Kudos to everyone who got a limit in this one because it was definitely one of the toughest days of fishing I've seen so far this year. The winds made it really tough to pick up on the light biters and you really had to work a lot of water to pick up keeper fish with reaction baits (cranks, spinnerbaits, jerks, etc.).

Congrats jcheetam. Must be you caught all of Brian's 'McCarters' before he got to them??
Doesn't that same guy win there every spring?
PoorBoy - 9th is better than 10th and below... and I notice I don't see ABA up there on the list anywhere ;D Must be he sacrificed himself for the effort ;D

I am actually pretty happy with 9th considering, but i let the win slip through my hands. I had the bites, but i just didnt execute well. I lost 4 big smallies first thing in the morning. I just couldnt keep them hooked. After that, the rest of my pattern was shot thanks to the monster cold front that came through. We putzed around most of the day trying to put something together and just couldnt. So with an hour left i decided to go deep and slow down. I c rigged a 6" lizard in 8 - 12 feet and ended up getting 4 small largies. That spot had been producing 3 -4 good smallmouth a day but they seemed to have shut down in the nasty weather. I feel fortunate to have caught what i did, but cant help but wonder if i would have got my first W had i been able to land those morning fish. PoorBoy himself

I figured the "McCarter's" would be hard to come by on Sunday, so I had to focus on the "Cheetam's". Last year's champion didn't show up to fish this one, but Ryan stepped up nicely to take the victory. He's a good fisherman and probably fishes Kent more than anyone I know (even me and Brian). He definitely did his homework, I think he said he caught 11 keepers Sunday. Brian did a good job getting 4 fish to bite in the last hour. I doubt there were 4 total fish boated in the last hour of the tourney by the rest of the field.
